February 2011 – Canadian Domain Name Sales Report

The top spot in February was taken by Sedo.com, they sold Venture.ca for $32,500. The end-users continue to purchase their desired .ca domain names through Sedo.com, and there is no way to stop them. Avendre.ca was sold for $7,500. “À vendre” means “to sell” in French. The third spot was taken by HST.ca with a $2,755 price tag. HST.ca was auctioned by Sibername.com. Most of the domain names continue to be undeveloped during a long period of time after acquisition. It wasn’t the case with HST.CA. The new owner of the domain name HST.ca is Adam Dicker, the owner of the largest and most popular domain name forum on the planet – DNforum.com. It took him only a week to build a site related to a controversial harmonized sales tax.
Both, Pool.com and Sibername.com have a reputation of being the best catchers of the premium Canadian TBR (to be released) domain names. It’s no surprise to see so many entries in our monthly sales chart occupied by these two companies. My personal favorite – Fudge.ca went for $2,000 at Pool.com. The last bid I placed for this domain name was $1,750, and I do regret that I let this one to slip away.

Brian, in order to participate in auctions for “to be released” domain names, you should pre-order them at the registrars that catch TBR domain names after their expiration. When HST.ca was released by the registry Sibername.com caught this name first, and sold this name at the auction on their site. All the people that pre-ordered this particular domain at Sibername.com could participate at the auction. You should register on their site, look for a “.ca backorder” section.
Having said that, I should mention that Sibername is one of the best services to catch TBR domain names, but there are few other good ones, like Pool.com and MyID.ca for example. If you want to increase the chances of getting a domain name you should register with them too. If you have any questions please our contact form and the services we provide under TBR TimeSaver section
